Two Jaish militants killed in Sopore encounter
Sopore, Feb 22: 20-hour-long fierce gun-battle which broke out between militants and government forces in Warpora village of Sopore town in North Kashmir on Thursday evening ended on Friday with the killing of two unidentified militants.
According to police, 22RR, SOG and CRPF cordoned off Warpora village of Sopore on Thursday afternoon after an input that militants werer hiding there.
As the search operation was launched, the forces came under fire from a house where the militants were hiding, said police, adding, the fire was returned triggering an encounter.
The encounter continued till Friday evening and ended with the killing of two unidentified militants, said police.
Sources said that both the militants, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, were affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit.
Locals told Kashmir Images that two residential houses, belonging to Bashir Ahmad War and Firdous Ahmad War, were damaged during the encounter.
Speaking to media in Sopore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) North Kashmir Atul Goel said, “Forces neutralized two unidentified Jaish militants in Warpora village and recovered weapons from their possession.”
“We are trying to identify the killed militants,” DIG said adding that forces suffered no collateral damage during the encounter.
However, some local sources in the late evening said that body parts of three persons were retrieved from the encounter site. However, there was no official word.
