Shopian village facing acute water shortage
Shopian, Feb 13: Khawaja pora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district is reeling under acute water shoratge from last two years, while as the concerned authorities, have never visited the area to solve the issue.
According to locals, the village is based on more than 200 households and only half of the population receives water supply. “Women folk of the village have to travel to long distances to fetch water,” they added.
One of the residents of Khawaja pora village, Sartaj Ahmad Bhat, said: “We are facing acute water shortage from last two years and we have been left with no other choice but to use contaminated water from canals, river and tube-wells.”
“The filtration plant present in our area is unable to provide water supply to every household,” he added.
When contacted Executive Engineering PHE Division Shopian said: “I will visit the area as soon as the weather improves to take stock of the situation.”
