Kargil, Feb 12: Despite sub-zero temperatures in Kargil, more than 20000 people are protesting in the town against the government’s SRO 110, demanding its revision and amendment so as to have divisional-level offices rotate between Kargil and Leh.

The protestors were being led by all religious, political and social leaders including acting Chief Executive Councilor of LAHDC Kargil.

All the government offices including LAHDC Secretariat, DC Office, and court remained closed together with all business establishments all over the district in protest.

People of the district have called for closure of government offices from tomorrow till their demand is fulfilled. The Employees Joint Action Committee Kargil has also extended their support to the shutdown.

The protesters once again marched from Islamic School Chowk towards DC Office today with black flags in their hands and protested there for the whole day.

During the previous night more than 3000 people assembled at Larse Masjid and blocked the National Highway 1D forcing the new Divisional Commissioner to return back to Leh from Wakha.
