Srinagar, Feb 09: A complete shutdown is being observed across Kashmir to commemorate the sixth death anniversary of Afzal Guru. Guru was hanged and buried in Delhi’s Tihar Jail after he was convicted of hatching a conspiracy of an attack on Indian parliament.

To prevent pro-freedom protests, authorities imposed stringent restrictions on the movement of people in old Srinagar and Maisuma area.

The strike called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) evoked complete response as all commercial establishments including shops remained closed to mark ‘Guru’s anniversary Day.’

The roads wore a deserted look while only a few private vehicles were spotted plying.

Authorities deployed heavy contingents of police and paramilitary CRPF men on the streets of Srinagar and other districts.

Rolls of concertina wires were placed on main roads to thwart any major protest. (KNS)
