LMD Jammu fines erring traders

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 02: Field executives of Legal Metrology Department (LMD), Jammu today conducted market checking in Trikuta Nagar and Nanak Nagar areas of the city during which it penalized erring business establishments.

Acting on a complaint, a team of LMD inspected a store situated at Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. It was found that a large number of eatables with a deficiency in mandatory declarations were being sold to the consumers and other declarations on the packaged commodities were too not legible.

Accordingly, a case was booked by Inspector Rohit Gupta and all such deceptive packages were removed from the shelves and a fine of Rs 25,000 was imposed and recovered as composition money.

In another case, a Hardware store at Nanak Nagar was fined for Rs 10,000 for selling items of sanitary items without MRP, PKD, Net Weight and Consumer helpline numbers as required under PCR 2011.

A total of 35 traders dealing with different trades were penalised and Rs 81,000 fine was imposed.
