Baramulla shuts for second day to mourn militant killings
Srinagar, Jan 25: A complete shutdown was observed Friday for second straight day in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district to mourn the killings of three local militants in a gunfight with the government forces.
Reports said all shops and business establishments remained shut in the town while public transport remained off the roads though some private vehicle plied.
Large contingents of police and paramilitary forces remained deployed in the town to thwart any protests in the area.
On Wednesday, three militants identified as Suhaib Farooq Akhoon, son of Farooq Ahmad Akhoon, a resident of Khanpora Baramulla; Mohsin Mushtaq Bhat, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Qazi Hamam Baramulla and Nasir Ahmad Darzi, son of Mohammad Amin Darzi, a resident of Sangrampora Batpora Sopore, at present in Jamia Qadeem Baramulla, were killed in a gunfight with government forces in Binner village of district.
Thousands of people participated in their funeral prayers yesterday.
