SRTC employees protest against management
“Decisions taken in board meeting not implemented”
Srinagar, January 12: Employees of the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) today held protest against the management for failing to implement some important decisions taken in the board meeting vis-à-vis functioning of the corporation.
The symbolic protest aimed at denouncing “sick policies” of the management was held at SRTC headquarters here this afternoon in which hundreds of the employees participated and sought immediate intervention of the government in streamlining the overall the corporation.
Shouting slogans like “save SRTC, down with corrupt management” the protesting employees appealed the government to order an audit regarding functioning of the SRTC.
Wajahat Ahmad, President All J&K SRTC Employees Union said the SRTC management did not implement the decisions taken during the recent board meeting.
He said the employees will intensify their protest in coming few days in case the government failed to take appropriate action against the SRTC management.
“We have not gathered here to press for our own demands but the management’s failure to implement board meeting decisions on ground. Recently some important decisions were taken which if implemented would give new life to lifeless corporation,” he said.
He said besides decision on occupied land of the SRTC, the government also increased rupees ten crores in budgetary support and sanctioned additional rupees forty crores for purchasing thirty new buses for Chenab valley under Urban Local Transport Service.
He alleged that the officers who are much interested in filling their own coffers did not implemented anything on ground.
“This careless and corrupt approach of the management has lead to the loss of SRTC. Our 60 buses and 25 trucks for want of operators (drivers) are non-operational, now we appeal to the Advisor Khursheed Ahmad Ganai to kindly look into the issue and make the management accountable for the faults,” he added.
