Lawrence Public School celebrates Annual Sports Day

Schools must focus on holistic development of students: Sharma

JAMMU, JANUARY 03: Advisor to Governor, Kewal Kumar Sharma today said that Schools must focus on all-round education to meet the challenges of the world.

Advisor stated this during “Khelostav 2018-19”, an Annual Sports Day celebration of Lawrence Public School, Jammu here at Sidhra where he was present as the Chief Guest.

The Advisor said that skills and competencies in todays’ time have different requirements than it used to be earlier. “We must realize the fact that when we are nurturing a child in school, we are nurturing the future of the nation,” he said.

On the occasion, IGP Armed, Danesh Rana and Ex-MLA, Devendra Singh Rana were the Guest of Honors besides Lt Gen Rakesh Sharma and Maj Gen K C Padha were the special guests.

During his address, the Advisor made a special mention of UN Sustainable Development Goal for Quality Education and talked about the social responsibility of the private schools in accomplishing this goal. He asked the School administration to explore and expand other competencies and integrate new courses.

Underlining the importance of children’s participation in extra curriculum activities, the Advisor said that parents also had a key part to play by encouraging their wards towards others activities as well to lay down more future prospects for them.

The Advisor emphasized on students to excel in other extra curriculum activities on par with academics as overall development of a student is fundamental to character building leading them to a successful future.

“Government is committed to develop the educational scenario in the state. It is the duty of the state that every child shall receive education,” he added.

The Advisor applauded the students for putting up remarkable performances like Yoga , Taekwondo, cultural performances and other games and appreciated the school administration for having an all-round curriculum . He also appreciated the role of the management of the school in providing quality education to the students.

On his arrival, the Chief Guest released the tricolor balloons in the open sky followed by lighting of the Olympic light with the Olympic torch. Chairman Lawrence Public School,WgCdr MM Joshi and Founder Principal, Shakuntla Joshi welcomed the guests by presenting bouquets while Headmaster of Lawrence Public School, Shivani Joshi presented the welcome address.

As a tradition of the school, the sports day program started with the Ganesh Vandana performed by Students. The event witnessed an opulence of sports activities like 200 mtr race, 100 mtr race, 70 mtr race, 50 mtr race, Javelin Throw, Discuss Throw and Shot-put. Students in huge numbers also participated in Mass Yoga, PT Drill in addition to Aerobics, Taekwondo and Zumba. The students also presented a colourful bonanza of cultural items to make this sporting event more entertaining. Meritorious students in various fields of Sports and Games were felicitated with medals by the dignitaries.

IGP Danesh Rana, in his address motivated the students to participate in sports and extracurricular activities. He advised the students to sweat it out in the field than be hooked to indoor electronic gadgets.

Ex-MLA, Devender Singh Rana while conveying his best wishes to the students, staff & management appreciated that apart from promoting strong academic, talent and skill development amongst children the school is also providing a platform which encourages the wholesome participation in the extracurricular sports activities to ensure the overall wellbeing of students.

The day was concluded with the vote of thanks conveyed by Founder Principal of Lawrence Public School, Shankutla Joshi.

Other prominent personalities included Padamshree Dr SP Varma, Former Director School Education, Jammu, S Ravinder Singh, noted Journalist Sohail Kazmi, Corporator Shama Akhtar, ID Soni, Rameshwar Mengi, Ravinder Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Brij Mohan Joshi and Chandra Joshi, Shashi Padha, Prabha Jain, Esther William, NeeruPuri besides school Principals were also present on the occasion.
