‘Thousands of households are plunged into darkness due to overload on Beerwah power station’

Budgam, Jan 01: The residents of more than half dozen Khansahib villages on Tuesday blocked several roads including Khansahib-Beerwah road in protest against Power Development Department (PDD) Budgam for not connecting the area to Waterhail power receiving station.

Amidst anti-PDD slogans, the protesting villagers of Zabigulla, Chanapora, Kralnewa, Ramhuma, Honjigora, Gundipanh and Chratoo said that their area is connected to Beerwah receiving station which is overloaded and lies at a distance of around 20 kms from the area.

“Thousands of households are plunged into darkness due to overload on Beerwah power station. If our transmission line is connected to the newly established receiving station we won’t face erratic power supply,” they said.

Firdous Ahmad, one of the protesters claimed that government has already approved the proposal for easing the commoners but PDD is not taking the matter seriously.

He added that district administration has also turned a blind eye towards the issue. “We also apprised the consecutive Deputy Commissioners of Budgam several times including present district head, but their response has been negative so far,” Ahmad added.

Meanwhile, Executive Engineer PDD Budgam Nasrullah Jan said that they have forwarded the proposal which is yet to be approved.
