Shortage of doctors at PHC Tukroo in district Shopian irk residents
Shopian, Dec 27: Residents of Tukroo village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district are aghast over non- availability of medical staff at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Tukroo.
According to the locals, the PHC Tukroo is supposed to meet the medical needs of 20 villages, adjacent to the Tukroo village. “The PHC is facing a shortage of doctors, paramedical staff and other medical facilities like X-ray,” they said.
They said that the PHC has no manpower to tackle the rush of patients as only three staff members, including a sweeper, remain present at the center.
“The patients are facing immense hardships due to lack of doctors at the PHC and we are being compelled to visit district hospital Shopian or Pulwama for seeking treatment,” they added.
One of the residents of village, Javaid Ahmad Bhat, said: “The land for the construction of PHC was provided by the Aukaaf Committee of Tukroo village and we did not provide them the land for constructing a building.”
Another resident Bashir Ahmad said, at least there should be doctor available in PHC and nursing staff so that patients should not have to visit to other places, although Ambulance was provided to PHC but the authorities said due to lack of space it was provided to DH shopian.
While contacted Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Shopian, said: “We will ensure the availability of the doctors at PHC Tukroo very soon. Earlier, one doctor was available at the said PHC but after his promotion he was posted to some other place.”
“As far as the availability of the paramedical staff is considered, the said staff remains present at the PHC,” he added.
