Promotes students to 5th, 6th semesters without declaring result of last three semesters

Srinagar, Dec 25: Disrespect is too mild a word to describe the injustices being meted out to such students by the authorities at the Kashmir University.

The pleas of students pursuing higher education with the Kashmir University (KU) continue to fall on deaf ears as they are being pushed around with no one ready to heed their woes.

It all started in the year 2015 when the academic curriculum in Kashmir colleges was brought under the semester system. It was the batch-2015 of college undergraduates which suffered miserable outcome of this ill-conceived policy and these students were even forced to hit streets for getting their legitimate issues resolved.

Now, it is batch-2016 of undergraduates who are being made to face even more complicated issues and the Kashmir University authorities are yet to face any governmental ire over their negligent and apathetic approach towards its students.

The undergraduate batch-2016 which has been promoted to 5th and 6th semesters is awaiting the examination result of their 2nd, 3rd and 4th semesters.

“We are feeling depressed and dejected for having to face the problems for which university is responsible,” said an undergraduate student.

“Authorities have left no channels of communication open for its students. No attempt is being made by the officials to approach us so that we could highlight our grievances,” he added.

According to the students at Government Degree College, Baramulla, Kashmir University has uploaded the “evaluation status” of 2nd semester which does not amount to examination result.

“We have been just told by our teachers that ‘evaluation status’ is not our actual examination result; but they have failed to explain it further,” they said.

The students told ‘Kashmir Images’ that on one hand the university officials have decided to combine 5th and 6th semesters in colleges which, according to them will save the precious time of students, but on the other hand, the university has failed to declare the result of last three semesters due to which the students are not able to concentrate on their current semesters.

“There is a huge communication gap between the colleges and University of Kashmir officials as the same is evident from the fact that whenever we have approach the concerned authorities of our colleges with our grievances, they fail to sync up their explanation with that of university authorities,” said a college student in Srinagar.

The students said they are being compelled to stage protests because there are no others avenues for getting their issues highlighted.

“Kashmir University should declare all the pending examination results of undergraduate 2016-batch within shortest possible time so that we could start focusing on our current semester without any stress,” they added.

Meanwhile, ‘Kashmir Images’ learnt from the students that the examination result of 4th semester, undergraduate batch-2015 (backlog) is also pending since Oct 2018.

“All our semester examination results have been declared by the Kashmir University except 4th semester backlog result. We have secured the provisional admission for Post Graduate (PG) courses in IGNOU and varsities outside the state for which we have to submit our graduation marks card by or before 31st December 2018 failing which our admission will be cancelled,” said a student, Firdous Ahmad.

“The Kashmir University is not declaring the said examination result even though matter pertains to our careers. Our bachelor’s degree got delayed by one year and now again our precious time is at stake. We request the authorities at Kashmir University to declare the result as soon as possible so that we can continue our further studies,” he added.

For Controller Examination, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, this grave issue has no importance as he did not bother to respond to repeated calls made by this reporter. Even a text message was forwarded to him about the matter, however, he didn’t reply.
