Heaven-XI crushes Zandfaran Cricket Club by 4 wickets in the final clinch

Baramulla, Dec 24: Sports fervor and cricket craze defied biting chill of Chill-e-Kalan as Nawav Cricket Tournament concluded in which Heaven-XI defeated Zandfaran Cricket Club by 4 wickets in the final clinch and lifted the championship trophy.

In the nail biting final match, after winning the toss Zandfaran Cricket Club (ZCC) elected to bat first and piled up 146 runs in allotted 17 overs. ZCC lost its first wicket on 11 runs and second wicket on 18 runs but Showket Ahmed took control of the middle order and scored 38 runs along with Shabir Ahmed who scored 35 runs.

In reply, opening batsmen of Heaven XI Rashid ul Isam and Sheikh Fayaz Ahmed put 38 runs partnership and their first wicket fell on 38 runs.

The middle order batting of Heaven XI collapsed before the stunning spell of Shabir Ahmed lone and Shabir Ahmed 4wickets of fall for just 39 runs leaving the team in major pressure.

Skipper of Heaven XI Sheik Fayaz said, “My boys played marvelous cricket and match winning cricket by Abid Sofi was turning point. It was exciting win indeed.”

However, Abid Hussain Sofi and Parvaiz made a match winning partnership with Abid hitting 66 runs not out along 4 huge sixes and three catches.   Heaven XI despite severe pressure scored 146 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. And Manzoor Ahmed Dar turned the match with his six hit into the pavilion.

Cricket tournament organized by Eco Company Fathegarh Unit of  46 RR of Army’s Dagger Division under aegis of Chinar Corps in Baramulla in which  of 1 6 teams from various parts of Narwav belt in Baramulla district participated.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest General Officer Commanding Dagger Division Major General Gulab Singh Rawat, emphasized on Army’s continued efforts towards building bridges with Awam, nurturing sporting culture and identifying young talent among the youth of the valley. He added that Army in its untiring and unceasing efforts to integrate the local youth with the mainstream and to enhance the sporting culture in the valley.

SSP Baramulla Mir Imtiyaz Hussain said, “This type of events in which sports is major part not only makes the person physically agile and alert but also help in mental growth owing to the inculcation of brotherhood and sense of harmony and cooperation.” “Like sports contests are struggle we have to look into life as struggle,” he added.

Reiterating its commitment for promoting sports activities Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Save Youth Save Future, Wajhat Farooq, said that our organization extremely endeavors in engaging more and more youth in sports activities.“These types of events help our youth in keeping distance from ill and hazardous practices and social evils, besides maintaining their physical fitness.
