Budgam, Dec 17: The Government Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS) Budgam is running without a principal from the past six months, which has hit the functioning of school.

The former principal was removed in June after students protested against him for using derogatory language.

But till date, government has left BHSS headless and made students suffer. The students complained that they are forced to wait weeks together for getting different things done, which otherwise could be completed in a day.

“School is facing many problems and there is no one to resolve them,” students said. “The functioning of school has also been affected. There is chaos all around.”

Presently, Deputy Chief Education Officer Budgam Inderjeet Singh is in charge principal of BHSS. However, sources said that Singh barely could make his presence at school.

When contacted, Singh said, “I have been given DDO (drawing and disbursing officer) powers and vice-principal is working as principal.” Singh added that the posting of full-fledged principal is the issue of higher authorities.

It is pertinent to mention that BHSS lies in close proximity to the office of Deputy Commissioner Budgam and Chief Education Officer (CEO), but that too has not proved beneficial for the school.

Admitting that the students are facing problems, CEO Budgam Rouf Ahmad Shahmiri said, “We only submit vacancy to the Administrative Department and they have to fill up the posts,” he said. “I think by the end of January 01, principal will be posted there.”

Meanwhile, Director School Education Kashmir G N Itoo could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
