Mirwaiz placed under house-arrest

JRL asks people to observe HR week

Srinagar, Dec 03: Hurriyat-M chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house-arrest on Monday morning to prevent him from taking part in candlelight vigil against human rights violations in Kashmir, said a spokesman.

He said that Mirwaiz was detained today morning at his residence in Nigeen area of Srinagar.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has urged people to observe human rights week from today.

The leaders have asked people to light candles and torchlights after evening prayers during this week to highlight human rights abuses in the Valley.

Taking to wtitter, Mirwaiz wrote: “As Baby Hiba is on the verge of losing her eyesight, the #HumanRightsWeek in valley commences.The amount of Ruman (Human) Rights abuse that we the people of #Kashmir suffer at the hands of forces bullets and pellets is unprecedented! Urge one and all to register their strong protest…”
