Winter Football League kick-starts in Ganderbal

Ganderbal, Nov 27: In a bid to promote winter football season in Kashmir, District Football Association (DFA) Ganderbal today inaugurated 9-aside football league here.

Organisers said the league has attracted lot of youth in Ganderbal and 12 teams have registered for the league so far.

Danish Ahmad a football player said, “DFA Ganderbal has taken a very good initiative. In winters, most of players don’t play football because of cold weather. This league will keep player active in the season and it will boost quality of football in Ganderbal.”

Bashir Dar president DFA Ganderbal said that hitherto football was mostly played in summer but from last couple of years winter football is gaining popularity. To give flip to winter football we have organised this league. I hope it will go well with football players.”

“The venue were the league is being played is not good. Government should pay attention to improve football grounds. If better grounds are made available, football will thrive in Kashmir,” he added.

Inaugural match was played between Real Sports FC and Hill sports FC. Real Sports beat Hill sports by 4 goals to nil.
