Srinagar, Nov 27: Employees of PHE department on Tuesday held a protest demonstration in Sumbal against the army for allegedly beating two employees during duty hours in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Scores of employees of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department on Tuesday held a sit-in outside the office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sumbal, demanding action against army personnel.

The protesters alleged that army personnel of 13 RR thrashed two of their colleagues who were working late last night in Hajin area during a search operation launched by the government forces in the district.

“During the intervening night of 25-26 November army entered inside the premises of water supply scheme Hajin where our two employees, Ashiq Ahmad Wani and Firdous Ahmad Dar, were on night duty. The army personnel beat them up without any provocation,” said Showkat Ahmad Rather, district president, PHE joint employees association Bandipora.

The protesting employees said that they have decided to lock down all the water supply schemes in Sonawari constituency until action is not taken against the army personnel.
