Budgam, Oct 17: Budgam’s Aga Syed Yousuf Memorial district hospital lacks adequate staff as 34 posts are lying vacant, reveals a reply to Right to Information (RTI) query.

An RTI application filed by this reporter has revealed that around three dozen posts here lie vacant including that of doctors, paramedical and nursing staff.

Among 125 Sanctioned posts, 91 have been filled, while 34 are lying vacant, RTI reply stated.

The vacant posts are: A-grade Surgeon, B-grade Physician, ENT Specialist, Head Lab Technician, Senior Lab Technician, three Junior Lab Technicians, Senior Theater Technician, Junior Theater Technician, Head X-Ray Technician, Super X-Ray Technician, three Junior X-Ray Technicians, Nursing Supervisor, 10 Junior Staff Nurses, Statistical Assistant, Medical Record Technician, four Anaesthesia Technician and two Ward boys.

Doctors and other employees here told Kashmir Images that the lack of staff has taken a heavy toll on patient care. A doctor said that in a race to manage the rush, the patients are not being treated properly.

For instance, he added that in absence of A-grade Surgeon and B-grade Physician, complicated medical cases which need decisions are unduly referred to Srinagar hospitals.

Meanwhile, locals said that they went from pillar to post about the betterment of hospital but nobody took Budgam’s “discriminated” hospital seriously.

They “again” appealed Jammu and Kashmir Governor and other concerned persons that vacant posts must be filled within no time.

“We once again appeal political representatives and concerned quarters particularly Governor, Satya Pal Malik to look into the matter.”

When contacted Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Srinagar, who has been given additional charge of CMO Budgam Talat Jabeen, denied that the posts are vacant. “As far as I know, posts are not vacant; however, posts have not been created at Budgam hospital.”
