India, Pak troops trade fire along LoC in Poonch
Srinagar, Oct 14: Indian and Pakistani troops Sunday traded fire across the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, officials said.
They said exchange of fire between the two sides continued for over an hour.
There was no immediate report of any casualty in the firing in Digwar sector, they said.
“The firing was started by Pakistani troops, who targeted forward posts by using small arms, around 0830 hours,” they said.
However, Pakistn Army’s media wing accused Indian troops of bombing a civilian residential area near the Line of Control (LoC), resulting in severe injuries to an 8-year-old boy.
The “unprovoked” shelling by the Indian Army occurred in the Chiri Kot sector of the LoC, said a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), adding Pakistani forces “responded effectively to the Indian post that engaged in the shelling”.
The injured boy was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
The latest violence along the heavily militarised border comes after only a few weeks of relative calm.
