Students stage protest in Sopore; demand deferment of examination
Sopore: Police on Wednesday restorted to tear gas shelling in order to disperse the students of 11th standard, studying Boys Higher Secondary School Sopore, who had staged a protest demanding deferment of their examination here.
Witnesses told Kashmir Images, that scores of students of government boys higher secondary Sopore staged a protest at Iqbal market -commercial hub of town – to demand deferment of their annual examinations till mid-November.
“Our Syllabus is incomplete due to prevailing situation in the valley, other side education departments are saying we will conduct exams in October which is total injustice with us and we will not tolerate this and will continue protest,” said Sharik student of 11th Class.
Speaking to Kashmir Images Senior Superintend of Police Sopore Javaid Iqbal Said, “students came out on the streets as they were demanding deferment of exams and meanwhile some students pelted stones on a CRPF picket located at Iqbal Market and the forces retaliated with some tear smoke shells.”
Now situation is normal and traffic is playing smoothly on roads and some protest students also went to higher secondary for classes, the officer added.
Principal Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Sopore Abdul Roub Shaad told Kashmir Images that students protest took place before 10 am outside of the institution for some time. “Their demand is to defer the examination of 11th class, our teachers have almost completed most of syllabus but some part is pending which will be completed very soon.”
