Qaziabad village faces water shortage, women stage protest

Handwara, September 06: The residents of Kralgund Qaziabad in Handwara on Thursday staged protest near main chowk Kralgund against shortage of drinking water in the area.
Meanwhile, the women protesters also blocked Baramulla-Handwara road.
The residential areas of Quaziabad including Ganapora, Hampora, Kralgund, Bitcherwara and Nihama are facing acute drinking water shortage. The area has plunged into a major water crisis, while as the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department has been caught unprepared to deal with this crisis.
While demanding immediate restoration of water supply, the residents raised slogans against the PHE department, MLA Langate and the state government.
The protester alleged that since last one month, they are not receiving regular water supply. “We are being forced to drink unhygienic water of streams,” they added.
They alleged that matter has been brought to the notice of the concerned administration but no improvement has been witnessed
Meanwhile, the road was cleared after a police party reached the spot and assured protestors that matter will be taken up with the higher authorities.
While talking to Kashmir Images, AEE Handwara assured that water supply to Qaziabad area will be restored at an earliest.
