Army pays tributes to slain soldier

Srinagar: Army today paid befitting tributes to late Sep. Shive Kumar who was killed in an encounter on Saturday.

“In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, Northern Army Commander along with Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks paid homage to the martyr on behalf of a proud nation. Representatives from other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyr,” said a defense spokesman in a statement issued here today.

Kumar sustained bullet injuries during the fierce operation in Danna Forests of Bandipora district in which three militants were eliminated. He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital but succumbed to his injuries, said the spokesman.

Kumar was 32 years old and had joined the Army in 2005. He belonged to Village Karoor of Kishtwar Tehsil in Doda District of J&K and is survived by his wife, three children and parents, added the spokesman.
