Social and emotional learning (SEL) is an umbrella term that refers to students’ “acquisition of skills to recognise and manage emotions, develop care and concern for others, make responsible decisions, establish positive relationships and handle challenging situations”. Briefly it refers to skills to manage self, relate to others positively and make responsible decisions.

Students, particularly in Kashmir Valley, face considerable challenges on a daily basis. Major stress is caused due to violent incidents linked to militancy/law & order. Academic stress gets aggravated on account of curfew/hartals adding to their burden. Dr. Showkat Ahmad Shah, HoD Psychology, University of Kashmir appreciated the inputs provided by the Guest Speaker on the topic and Dr. Humaira Shafi, Faculty Member, Department of Psychology, University of Kashmir presented vote of thanks.
