Administration wakes up finally, conducts extensive market check

Tangdar Karnah: In the first ever inspection by administrative officials in Karnah since the Eid ul Fitr, fines were snapped on erring shopkeepers and spoiled eatables were destroyed.

Fine of around Rs 5500 was snapped on shopkeepers inspected and three quintals of spoiled vegetables were destroyed besides dry fruits worth Rs 10,000.

Locals said that broilers were being sold at the rate of Rs 150- 160/kg  against the official price of Rs130/kg. Though the price of Layer chicken was fixed at Rs80/kg, it was sold at Rs120/kg. Similarly, potatoes were being sold at Rs 30-40/kg against the designated rate of Rs 20/kg and Shimla mirch at Rs 60/kg against Rs 40/kg.

When asked why no frequent market checks were conducted ahead of Eid ul Azha, SDM Karnah Dr. Ilyas Ahmad said that the administration was stuck with in clearing the road post 14 August flash floods but ensured that checks will be held frequently.
