Farooq Shah stresses on judicious use of water

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 11: The three-day children’s festival ‘LUKCHAR’ organized by the Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU) of Departments of PHE and I&FC concluded here today.

The festival was organized at a private educational institution here to highlight the importance of water in human life.

The theme of the festival was ‘Agar sehat aur tandrusti chahiay puri-Tou pani ki janch karna zaroori’. Secretary PHE and I&FC Farooq Ahmad Shah was the chief guest on the occasion.

Addressing the valedictory function, the Secretary said that every drop of water is precious for human life and added that the need of the hour is to ensure that water resources are used judiciously to combat water scarcity.

He said millions in the world do not have access to clean water. “Therefore, it becomes imperative for the people in the state to reaffirm their commitment towards water conservation,” he added.

Secretary PHE said there is no doubt that state of Jammu and Kashmir is bestowed with abundant resources of water, however, he cautioned about the unabated pollution of water bodies posing a great threat to its flora and fauna. He appealed people to make collective efforts for conservation of water bodies.

He said such kind of programmes in schools would help students understand the importance of water and about protecting water bodies and environment.

On the occasion, eminent poet Zareef Ahmad Zareef highlighted the importance of water conservation. He also gave thrust on imbibing quality and moral value education among the children.

Later, the Secretary presented mementoes among the prominent citizens and children who took part in the three-day festival.
