Secy Horticulture reviews progress on high-density plantation

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 8: Secretary Horticulture Department, Manzoor Ahmad Lone, today convened a meeting to review progress on high-density plantation here.

Director Horticulture Kashmir, Vice President J&K Bank, Joint Director Horticulture Jammu, private enterprises and other officers were present in the meeting.

It was informed in the meeting that 4.5 lakh high-density apple plants have been imported by private enterprises and are maintained for Post-entry Quarantine measures at their respective PEQ facilities. It was also informed that a total of 240 ha of orchards are being developed during this year.

Private enterprises have requested that PEQ facility at ACHD, Zainapora, Shopian may be provided to private enterprises for accommodating more imported high-density apple plants for Post-entry Quarantine measures so that more area may be brought under high-density apple orchards.

The Secretary, Horticulture stressed that the target allotted to all the private enterprises be achieved in full during the current fiscal and urged the concerned to raise more awareness among farmers about the benefits of the high-density plantation.
