Samoon inaugurates Hatchery, Sheep Extension Center, Vet Dispensaries at Baramulla

BARAMULLA, AUGUST 08: Principal Secretary Animal/Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries and Transport, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, today conducted an extensive tour of district Baramulla during which he inaugurated Veterinary dispensaries at Kunzer and Wagoora, constructed at a total cost of Rs 54 Lacs under centrally sponsored schemes ESVHD and RIDF.

He also inaugurated Poultry Hatchery at Achabal Sopore, Constructed at a cost of Rs. 3 Crore under RIDF. He also inaugurated Sheep Extension Center at Shrakwar, constructed at a cost of Rs 18.28 lacs.

Dr. Samoon was accompanied by District Development Commissioner Baramulla Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash, Director Animal Husbandry Kashmir, Dr Mohammad Yousuf Chaproo, Director Fishries RN Pandita, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer,District Sheep Husbandry Officer Baramulla .

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Samoon said these veterinary institutions will provide added diagnostic and medical facilities for livestock at doorsteps. He called upon the concerned to introduce innovative techniques to ensure better delivery of services to the farmers of the District.

Dr Samoon held detailed deliberations with officers of Animal & Sheep Husbandry Departments and issued instructions regarding up-gradation of existing facilities in these units. He also stressed for appropriate measures to boost the livestock production in the District to become self-sufficient in mutton and poultry needs of the consumers.

He also stressed for greater involvement of youth in the farming sector which has vast potential in the District, adding that youth should come forward to establish their income generating units and avail benefits from various government schemes. He asked field functionaries to highlight the government schemes and their benefits to attract unemployed youth to avail their optimum benefits and overcoming the unemployment problem and contributing towards the economy of the district

During the visit, the Principal Secretary was informed that the cattle population in district Baramulla has reached 2.99 lac including 1.09 lac cows while as milk production gone up to 14.24 crore litters. It was also given out that number of poultry birds have touched the 5-lac figure in the district, while as annual egg production gone up to 28.04 million. Meanwhile Samoon also visited Fodder Production Farm Taper Pattan.
