Irrigation canals restored in Shopian

SHOPIAN AUGUST 08:  Due to recent heavy incessant rainfall and cloudburst, 97 irrigation schemes at 120 spots in district Shopian including Tongri Canal have been affected.

The District Administration Shopian has directed the Irrigation department Shopian to take necessary measures and to restore the schemes on war footing basis and also have been directed to build embankments and establish concrete river banks.

The tentative estimated restoration cost of Rs 366 Lacs, has been demanded to restore and reconstruct of 120 spots including upstream and downstream of headworks (gate), till date. In addition, 40 PHE schemes have also been restored.

The reconstruction of other remaining spots will be completed with next 15 days. The restoration of these schemes will benefited 73 villages and catering the requirements of the district includes 61 in sub-division Shopian and 12 in sub-division Zainapora which is providing irrigation facilities to culturable command areas (CCA) 6556 acre of the district including kharief 5574 acres (2265.8 hectares) Rabbi 982 acres (399 hectares).
