Major cracks in building pose threat to lives of patients, staff
Gulmarg: While government claims to have improved healthcare facilities across the state, the condition of Primary Health Centre (PHC) in world famous tourist destination Gulmarg speaks volumes about the ailing health sector as the building is in shambles posing serious threat to lives of patients as well as the staff.
“The land beneath the PHC Gulmarg is sinking from past several years due to which the entire building has developed major cracks and fissures posing threat to lives of patients and staff here,” said a local visitor Ghulam Rasool of Tangmarg.
“See the condition of health centre at this world famous tourist destination where tourists from across world come. The building is unsafe and patients as well as staff fear for lives,” he added.
The locals and those associated with tourism have urged authorities to shift the health centre to a safe location where patients can be safe and treated smoothly.
“We feel very unsafe here to discharge our duties. Both doctors and paramedics are in constant threat as building can collapse anytime,” said a paramedical staff member wishing not to be named.
“Nobody pays any heed to repeated pleas by locals and tourists who have been demanding shifting of the PHC to a safe place. We appeal Governor Administration to look into the matter and provide proper health facilities to patients in Gulmarg,” said Fayaz Ahmed, another local.
When contacted, Chief Executive Officer Gulmarg Development Authority, Mohmmad Hanief said that there has been a blanket ban on construction in Gulmarg by High Court and no construction material can be transported to the tourist site.
“So far as health centre Gulmarg is concerned, we have approached the High Court and are waiting for its nod to do the needful,” he said.
