One arrested with fake currency

Jammu: A person was arrested today after fake currency in new denomination notes, worth Rs 41,900 recovered from him in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior police officer said.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, Yougal Manhas said the police was busy in routine vehicle checking at Jaglanoo village of Kandi when they noticed a pedestrian moving around in suspicious circumstances.

“On noticing a police party, he tried to flee but was chased and arrested,” the officer said, adding that the accused was identified as Altaf Hussain of Muradpur village

During his frisking, the SSP said, a bundle of fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 41,900 in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 200 were recovered.

He was arrested and a case under relevant sections of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) registered against him, Manhas said.

Manhas said the accused was being questioned so that it may lead to the arrest of other people involved in the fake currency racket in the district.
