Vigilance sleuths recover huge cache of wealth in govt official’s home
Srinagar, Jul 15: The State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) sleuths stumbled on a huge cache of wealth during a raid on the home of Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Shopian, sources said.
They said the recoveries include cash of Rs 32 lakhs in addition to Rs 99,000 in old discarded currency, besides gold jewellery worth Rs 10 lakhs and a licensed pistol with 47 rounds of ammunition. Other recoveries include ownership documents of plots in Punjab and Chadoora (Budgam). Various bank checkbooks and passbooks were also recovered.
The raid was carried out at the ARTO Shopian Abdul Majid Bhat’s (son of Khazir Mohammad), residence at Bagh-e-Mehtaab in Srinagar.
The Vigilance sleuths also raided the residence of Haji Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat (son of Ghulam Mohamad) at Heri Parigam. Haji is ARTO’s brother-in-law.
Haji and ARTO jointly own a Cardboard factory at Hari Parigam, sources said, adding that the sleuths also seized the documents pertaining to the factory, five bank passbooks belonging to Haji and one in the name of the ARTO. They also seized as many as 10 ATM cards linked to these bank accounts.
