Intense clashes erupt in Trehgam after Friday prayers

Kupwara, Jul 13: Intense clashes erupted in Trehgam area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday between protesters and the government forces.

Reports said that protests broke out after congregational prayers in Trehgam against the killing of a youth in army firing on Wednesday.

Government forces deployed in the area since past three days fired tear gas to disperse the protesters, triggering clashes, reports said, adding several protesters were injured in the clashes who were shifted to a local hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in entire Kupwara district to mourn the killing of local youth Khalid Gaffar Malik in army firing.

A heavy deployment of forces has been made in the district to prevent protests.
