Hurriyat‘s March to Martyrs Graveyard Foiled by Police
Srinagar, 13 July: Police Friday foiled the proposed ‘March to Naqashband Sahib (Martyrs graveyard)’ of Hurriyat Conference (M) when amalgam leaders including its Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, senior leaders Engineer Hilal War, Sufi Mushtaq Ahmad and others were arrested near Mirwaiz’s Nigeen residence from where the march was supposed to take off.
Mirwaiz and War accompanied by a large number of supporters began the march towards Naqashband Sahib , defying all restrictions and curbs, from Mirwaiz Manzil Nigeen at 12:30 p.m. today to salute and pay tribute martyrs of July 13, 1931 . A heavy contingent of Jammu and Kashmir Police surrounded them and did not allow them to proceed.
Pertinently the united Hurriyat Leadership was supposed to march towards Naqashband Sahab (martyrs graveyard of 1931 martyrs) as per the scheduled programme to pay tribute to Martyrs of 1931.
Earlier, Syed Ali Geelani who also continues to be under house arrest, tried to march towards Naqashband Sahib to pay tributes to 13th July martyrs as announced earlier by joint resistance camp, however, forces deployed outside his residence prevented him from marching ahead.
“We are duty-bound to carry their mission to its logical end and we strongly condemn authorities for laying curbs and imposing restrictions against peaceful march,”Geelani was quoted as saying by the press release.
Geelani further added that state was turned into a ‘military garrison’ and criticized authorities for their ‘undemocratic and autocratic approach’ saying that the tall claims and ‘parroting’ about being a great democracy of the world, proves hoax and the ‘rhetoric’ for greater republic stands deflated.
“They believe in military and muscular might. We are pursuing a movement to achieve our right to self-determination to decide the political destiny of state as guaranteed and laid in UN charter”, Geelani added.
Chairman JKLF Muhammad Yasin Malik who was arrested by police on 6th July 2018 and continues to remain lodged at police station Khothibagh along with Tehreeq-I-Hurriyat leader Umar Adil Dar, in a message sent out from incarceration has said that 13th July 1931 was a day when Kashmiri martyrs sacrificed their lives for a ‘sacred cause’ and that no one can ever forget these sacrifices or turn a blind eye towards theses sacrifices. He said that the historic incident, ‘teaches us resistances and persistence’ and Kashmir ‘as a nation’ owe ‘reverence’ to them.
