Thousands attend funeral of LeT militant in Handwara

Amid heavy rains, thousands of people turned up for the funeral of  Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant Sajad Ahmad Shah at Chogul village in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district  on Saturday morning.

According to reports people from adjoining villages and other far flung areas of the district Kupwara marched to the Chogul village early morning today and offered funeral prayers of the slain militant.

“People from Baramulla and Sopore also participated in the funeral,” reports said.

Sajad Ahmad Shah son of Ali Mohammad Shah resident of Gund Chogul village of Handwara,who was active in militancy from last six months. He was killed in a gunfight in chutpura area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.

According to a Police official, Sajad Ahmad Shah was involved in number of attacks on the security establishments and civilian atrocities.

Meanwhile, thousands of mourners gathered at Chogul village on early Saturday and staged massive protests against the killing of Sajad in an encounter in South Kashmir Village, the mourners including women and children raised Pro-Azadi, Pro-Pakistani and Anti-India slogans.

Handwara is observing a complete shutdown to mourn the killing of militant, while authorities have snapped Internet services in Kupwara district as a precautionary measure.
