Shopian residents protest ‘thrashing of three persons by army’

Srinagar, Jun 13: The residents of Ahgam village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday protested against alleged thrashing of three locals by the army.

As per reports, residents of Ahgam blocked the Ahgam-Pulwama road as the word about the beating of three persons, Bilal Ahmad, Mohammad Shafi and Abdul Majeed, spread in the area.

“Army personnel of 44 RR from the nearby Ahgam camp came in the area and without any provocation beat up some local residents who were tending to their orchards,” residents alleged.

The protesters were demanding action against the erring troopers.

As pr a local news agency, defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said: “Army personnel haven’t manhandled anyone. These are baseless allegations.”
