Police constable shot at by militants in Shopian

Srinagar, June 13: A police constable was injured critically after fired upon by militants at Katho Hallan area of Kellar in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday evening.

Official sources said that the gunmen fired upon the SPO, Rayees Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Hassan near his home at Katho Hallan village this evening.

In the incident, Lone, suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to the nearby district hospital where from he was referred to Srinagar hospital in critical conditions,” they said.

Sources said that Lone was recently promoted from SPO to police constable and is presently posted at DPL Shopian.

SSP Shopian Shailendra Mishra also confirmed the incident to GNS.

“Lone was shot at by the militants after they barged inside their home. He was working as a constable,” SSP said.

Meanwhile, government forces cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the assailants.
