Outbreak of FMD in Lar; KVK-G’bal conduct awareness camp

Srinagar: In view of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak in Lar area of Ganderbal an awareness camp was today organized in which livestock owners of the area participated and interacted with the experts from SKUAST-K.

In the camp farmers and farm women of Qazi Mohalla, Teli Mohalla, Repora and adjoining villages participated.

The participants were made aware about the prevention, control and spread of the disease. Swabs for serotyping the causative agent of the disease were collected and necessary medicines required for the FMD affected animals was distributed among the participants.The quires raised by the farmers were patiently heard and responded by the experts.

Experts form Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, SKUAST-K, Dr Sabia Qureshi, Sr. Scientist Microbiology, Dr Amatul Muhi, Sr Scientist, Veterinary Clinical Medicine, Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Reshi, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science), Dr Showkat Ul Nabi, Scientist, Veterinary Medicine and Dr Javid, Research Associate, Veterinary Microbiology participated in the programme.

Earlier, Dr Reshi threw light on the economic impact of the FMD, reasons of its outbreak and operational measures to combat the disease at the farmers’ level. The farmers hailed the efforts of SKUAST-K in their reach out to farmers.

Worth stating here that FMD, a highly contagious viral disease of Cattle, Sheep and goat has appeared in the Lar area of Ganderbal district and has caused several mortalities among animals and the disease is spreading at an alarming rate.
