Srinagar, May 18: Militants and the army exchanged fire in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday after the former attacked a patrolling party, reports said.

According to a news agency, militants attacked a patrolling party of the army in Hajin area early morning. It said the army retaliated, resulting in a brief exchange of fire, following which searches were launched in the area. However, no contact was established.

The exchange of fire comes on the second day of unilateral ceasefire announced by the Home Ministry in the holy month of Ramazan.

While the forces have been asked not to launch anti-militancy operations, they have been given the right to retaliate in case of an attack.
