Srinagar: Police on Monday foiled a protest march of traders to civil secretariat in Srinagar.

The traders, representing Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), assembled at Abi Guzar and tried to march towards the civil secretariat, which opened in Srinagar today.

However, police foiled the march at the Residency road.

The march was organized as part of the programme announced by separatists asking people to march towards secretariat on its opening day to protest against killings in Shopian on Sunday.

KTMF president Muhammad Yaseen Khan told reporters that the traders are ready to suffer any losses but cannot tolerate “excesses on innocent people”.

Khan and seven other protesting traders were later detained by the police and lodged at Kothibagh police station.
