Shopian Gunfight : Four civilians injured, one critical

Shopian, 2 May: Four youth susstained bullet injuries after militants and government forces exchanged heavy fire in Turkewangam village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday.

Locals informed Kashmir Images over phone that one of the injured was identified as Innayat Ahmad. The identification of other three injured youth is yet to be ascertained.

The locals said that all the injured were hit by bullets.

Earlier, a gunfight broke out between militants and forces after a joint team of army and SOG was fired upon by militants in Terkiwangam.

The forces, according to police sources, had started search operation following a specific information about the presence of some militants in the area.

The sources said, “when the forces reached the spot where the militants were believed to be trapped,  the militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight.”

Meanwhile, police sources said that Zeenatul Islam with 2 of his accomplices is believed to be trapped in the encounter.
