CRPF man injured in clashes in Tral

Srinagar, Apr 27: A paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper was injured in clashes with protesters in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.

Witnesses said that youth took to streets and staged a massive protest demonstration during shutdown in Tral after congregational Friday prayers.

Soon, clashes erupted in which a CRPF trooper was injured.

Meanwhile, shutdown was observed in the area for the fourth consecutive day against the killing of four militants, including two locals, in a 12-hour gunfight in Lam forests of Tral on Tuesday. The other two were foreigners, including Jaish operational commander, police said.

All shops and other commercial establishments remained closed while public transport was off the roads.

Meanwhile, shutdown was observed in Shopian district of south Kashmir today to mourn the killing of a local youth in Anantnag shooting yesterday.

A student identified as Shakeeb Shabir was killed after militants fired at government forces at Lazibal crossing  at about 2:20 pm yesterday, but the fire missed the target and hit him, police said.

Clashes also erupted in Chowdhary Gund village of Shopian after youth pelted an Army camp with stones.

Reports said that youth hurled rocks at 34 RR camp in the village. However, police reached at the spot and fired tear-gas to disperse them.

The protesting youth kept on re-grouping, leading to further clashes.
