Srinagar, Apr 26: Hailing the government for taking over the Abhinandan Home, ruling Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday said such a measure would go a long way in establishing the institute as a centre of excellence for the specially-abled children for the state.

In a statement issued here, PDP’s Srinagar district president and MLC Mohammad Khurshid Alam said that the previous regimes had left the only school for summer capital’s specially-abled children in shambles with no attention paid to its dilapidated condition and flood-wrecked infrastructure.

He said the successive regimes in the state had failed to pay any attention towards the institute which led to its downfall and that it was ironic to find that when the floods marooned such an important institute, not even a single official from the government took measures for the mitigation of its losses.

Alam claimed that he was demanding that the government should take over the administration and day to day affairs of the Abhinandan Home in its own hands so that the children who strive to get a respectable place in the society could be facilitated for the same.

He added that the measure of the government to take control of the Abhinandan Home is a welcome measure and that the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has to be appreciated for such an earnest action by one and all in the state.

“What no government did for such special children was done by the present regime. It has become evident now that the government led by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is for the welfare and well-being of every citizen of the state and such a pro-people regime wasn’t ever witnessed or heard of in the state,” Alam claimed.

The PDP leader also appreciated the efforts put in by the Chief Secretary, Secretary, General Administration Department (GAD) and chairman of the Abhinandan Home, Ghulam Nabi Boodha.

Alam said that he is also thankful to PDP vice-president Mohammad Sartaj Madni and general secretary Mansoor Hussain Soharwardhy for lending their support to the demand that the special school be administered and controlled by the State government.

He maintained that the Abhinandan Home is an important institution of learning as same was established in 1941, and it has been imparting education to specially-abled children for decades now.

He said that at present there are hundreds special children enrolled in the institution with only a few teachers to teach them.

“I am sure, as the government has taken control of the institution, the quality education will be ensured and the children will achieve new heights and prosper in their lives,” Alam said.
