Panchayat Raj Day celebrated across Kashmir

Srinagar, APRIL 24: Department of Rural Development today organized ‘Gram Swaraj Sabba’ in Budgam in connection with Panchayat Raj Day.

The day-long function was attended by a large gathering of people including job card holders, PMAY-G, SBM beneficiaries, officials, officers of the department and other concerned.

While inaugurating the Sabba, ACD Budgam Fayaz Ahmad Parra highlighted the need for framing a socio-economic structure through “people-friendly” schemes introduced by the department.

He said the schemes and projects devised for people’s welfare if utilized to their maximum can uplift socio-economic conditions of the concerned areas. Besides, it will create alternate employment opportunities for the deserving ones, he added.

Later, the ACD distributed job cards among 20 beneficiaries present on the occasion. A similar distribution of job cards was also carried out at all block headquarters, where concerned BDOs distributed them among the beneficiaries, an official press release informed.

District Information Centre, Pulwama in collaboration with Block Development Office also organized a debate to mark the National Panchayati Raj Day.

Speaking on the occasion, District Development Commissioner Pulwama Ghulam Mohammad Dar said delved about ‘Gram Swaraj’ and said that the scheme is aimed at making rural local bodies self-sustainable, financially stable and more efficient.

He said that Panchayats are effective ways to fulfil aspirations of rural people and social transformation.

Earlier, different speakers highlighted the importance of Panchayat Raj Institutions and good governance.

In connection with the National Panchayati Raj Day, a function was also organized in Dak Bungalow Khanabal, Anantnag today, in order to discuss various schemes and programmes of the Rural Development Department and to provide awareness to the general public about the importance and functions of Panchayats in development of the rural areas of the district.

On the occasion, DDC, Anantnag Mohammad Younis Malik was the chief guest. The DDC said that dozens of welfare schemes and programmes have been framed for the benefit of the rural folk but the need of the hour is to create mass awareness so that people are benefited in the real sense. The DDC stressed upon the officers of the Rural Development Department to sensitize the general public about the benefits of various schemes of the said department and bring the benefit to the deserving.

The Lead Bank Manager appraised the gathering regarding the various schemes of the banks and their benefits for the general public.

On the occasion, fresh job cards were distributed among the unemployed youth.

Among others, ACD, Anantnag, officers of NABARD, BDOs of Anantnag & Bijbehara, VLWs, GRSs, JEs, Technical Assistants, other field functionaries and the general public were present on the occasion.

Similarly, 303 Gram Panchayats were held across the district to discuss the various schemes of the department and to the aware general public about the various schemes of the said department.
