In 103 days of this year, Shopian remains shut for more than 30 days
Shopian, 13 April: Shopian district in southern part of Kashmir today observed a complete shutdown against the recent civilian killing at Khudwani area of District Kulgam.
Sources said that all the business establishments were shut while traffic was off the roads. The educational institutions have also remained shut across the district since the civilian killings at Khudwani Kulgam. One of the killed civilian, Fazil Allai, was from Melahura Village of Shopian district.
Besides the shutdown against the latest civilian killings in Khudwani area of Kulgam district, Shopian district was open for 2 days after it observed complete shutdown for nine straight days against the killing of 12 militants and 4 civilians in two separate encounters on 1 April.
Shopian district has completed more than a month of shutdowns since the beginning of this year.
The latest wave of continuous shutdown started on April 1 after killing of 12 militants and four civilians in two separate encounters in the volatile district.
The first shutdown of this year in the district was observed on January 25 when two militants and a 17-year old boy Shakir Mir were killed at Chaigund Adoo.
