Restrictions in city; schools, colleges to remain closed today

Srinagar, Apr 05: The authorities have decided to impose restrictions in seven police station areas of Srinagar city Friday, while all the schools and colleges in Srinagar, Shopian, Ganderbal and Baramulla districts will also remain closed.

Kashmir University has also decided to suspend class-work and postponed all examinations scheduled for the day.

Fearing protests in the wake of separatists’ call for the same on Friday, the authorities have decided to impose restrictions in various police station areas of downtown Srinagar  including Safa Kadal, Mararaj Gunj, Khanyar, Nowhatta, Rainawari, and partially in Maisuma and Kralkhud police station areas, officials said.

Government spokesman also said that class-work in the schools and colleges of Srinagar will remain suspended on Friday.

“All educational institutions will remain closed tomorrow (Friday) in the district,” said the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla. DC Ganderbal also said schools and colleges in district Ganderbal shall remain closed tomorrow.

“The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to avoid law and order situation,” said an official.

The move comes in the wake of massive student protests which erupted across the Valley today against the Sunday’s civilian and militant killings in Shopian and Anantnag districts.

Kashmir University spokesman also said there will be no class-work in the varsity on Friday while the examinations scheduled for the day have been postponed.
