Gunfight breaks out in Pulwama orchards

Srinagar, April 6 : A gunfight broke out between militants and government forces at Kangan area of Pulwama in South Kashmir on Friday afternoon.

SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudary told GNS that a cordon-and-search operation was launched by a joint team of army’s 55 RR, police and CRPF at Kangan orchards following inputs about the presence of some militants.

As the joint party approached the suspected spot, the militants hiding in the area opened fire triggering off an encounter.

Meanwhile, sources said that two to three militants are believed to be hiding in the area.

When reports last came in the exchange of firing was going on.
