Srinagar: A team of doctors in the Department of Plastic Surgery SKIMS performed hand re-implantation of a three year old child.

A statement issued by SKIMS said that the surgeons re-implanted three digits of the hand. The child’s hand had got stuck in the wheel of a motor cycle.

In a 14 hour surgery, the team of surgeons was able to re-implant all the three digits of the child.

“Usually small children are a challenge for these kind of surgeries as the vessel size and tissues are very delicate and small. This surgery became possible by proper expertise and the availability of high end equipment like operating microscopes, micro instruments and delicate sutures,” elaborated Dr. Adil Hafiz, HOD Plastic Surgery.

The doctors who conducted the surgery included Dr. Mir Mohsin and Dr. Haroon under the supervision of head of the department Dr. Adil Hafeez.

Director SKIMS, Dr. Omar Javed Shah congratulated the department for successfully conducting the surgery and said SKIMS has taken a lead in conducting challenging procedures.
