SMHS trauma theatre on fire; all safe
Srinagar: Panic gripped patients and attendants at SMHS Srinagar as fire broke out in trauma theatre area of the hospital in Srinagar on Saturday.
Witnesses said that people there ran in panic after fire engulfed the trauma theatre waiting area around 11 am on the second floor of casualty block.
The attendants of patients admitted to neurosurgery ward, located adjacent to the theatre, were seen trying to to move beds out of the ward as the fire spread, witnesses said.
They said that as the the whole floor was filled with smoke, the power supply got snapped.
Theatre area and neuro ward have been damaged in the fire, said sources.
However, the timely action of fire fighters prevented the fire from spreading, he said, adding that water used to control the fire has rendered the area unusable.
“All patients and attendants are safe,” sources added.
