Budgam: People in Budgam have expressed their strong resentment against district administration for ‘snatching’ transport facility from them.

“We are compelled to walk 3-4 Kms everyday to get a cab and the students, patients and old-aged persons are the worst sufferers,” a group of commuters said.

They said that after the administration relocated bus stand, they started meeting inconveniences, as no vehicle is allowed to ply from old bus stand.

Bilal Ahmad, a regular commuter said that nobody is against shifting of bus stand, but before making new bus stand functional, administration should have also kept former one operational and made necessary arrangements for commuters.

“This abrupt decision to relocate the bus stand has become an inconvenience for the commuters. As compared to the new bus stand, the old bus stand was situated in close proximity to all government offices, hospitals and education institutions,” he said.

Another commuter, Muneer Ahmad said, “Our only demand is that few vehicles must be allowed to ply from old bus stand to different routes,” adding that the road leading to new bus stand should be provided with footpath and street lights.

Zaira Hassan, a university student and a regular commuter complained that she has to walk 2 Kms everyday in order to board a vehicle for Srinagar only.

Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Mubashir Jan Bhat, however, rejected the demand of locals. He said no vehicle will be allowed to ply from old bus stand, as there are orders from district administration.

Locals, while requesting Budgam MLA, Aga Syed Ruhullah said, “We request Ruhullah sahab to direct concerned authorities to make transport facility available at old bus stand.”
