Srinagar, March 15: Reacting to the demand for ally BJP to hand over the refer Kathua rape-and-murder case to CBI for probe, ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday said that central probe agencies have no role when the state police is competent enough to investigate and crack cases on its own.

Minister for Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, Javaid Mustafa Mir while reposing faith in local police said that raising suspicions on the aptitude of the state police makes absolutely no sense.

“What makes people to move to police stations for redressal of their issues if state police is incompetent – in that case let central probe agencies replace it,” Mir told reporters on the sidelines of a plantation drive at the Emporium Garden here.

He said that the State government had initially formed Special Investigation Team and then the case was referred to Crime Branch for probe.

“I would like to reiterate that our police is competent enough to crack complex issues and we have full faith on its caliber. Casting aspersions on its competence does not make any sense,” Mir added.
