Gunfight in Khunmoh; three militants trapped

Srinagar: The security forces and the militants were engaged in a gunfight in Khunmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar.
The encounter, sources said, started following an attack on a local BJP leader.
Reports said that the forces launched a cordon and search operation in Balhama area of Khunmoh following the attack which left a policeman Bilal Ahmad injured.
A police spokesman said that contact was established with the militants who carried out the attack on security officers of the BJP leader Anwar Khan.
Witnesses said that intermittent firing was going on between the two sides. They said that the militants – believed to be three in number – were trapped inside a residential house.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Balhama after youth tried to march towards the gunfight site to disrupt the anti-militant operation.
Clashes also erupted in Tral and Murran chowk in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district after news that two local militants were surrounded by the forces in Khunmoh.
